Wapta Falls Hike

Wapta Falls trail hike is an easy 4.8 km forested trail that leads to a roaring jaw-dropping waterfall that creates a misty glow where rainbows appear within.

The tree-lined trail changes throughout with different species of trees and the lush forest of mosses and vegetation. Exposed tree stumps and downed deadfall may become hazardous for some who are not aware of their surroundings.

Once approaching the falls that can now be heard, the path descends down to the riverbed. There is a Y in the trail heading down which you can decide which trail is best suited for your ability. A sharp left is a steeper descend and footing can get tricky however, the trail ahead will be a gradual .07 km add to the hike one way down to the creekbed.

Discovering The Best Of Wapta Falls

At the falls there are a few viewpoints to choose from. Enjoy the beauty of the falls from the creekbed or climb the slippery shale slope to the viewpoint above the falls or climb the second hill which is a bit slicker and steep however this view captures the whole panoramic essence of the adventure.

Conclusion:

This hike was a really nice relaxing hike. It took us about 2 hours stopping for a break, photos as well as choosing the gradual loop route back. Of course, I highly recommend carrying bear spray on every hike regardless of how busy or how short. A bear can pop up anywhere, anytime.

Really surprised how many people hike these trails with nothing but their clothes on their backs. One may not need all Back-Country Essentials but always a good idea to be prepared for anything, an injury, wildlife encounter, weather changes and so much more.

Better Safe than Sorry!

Trails have some wonderful natural beauty within them, flowers, berries, sounds, critters, unusual-looking trees, and the fresh mountain air that are just good for the soul. “Let your soul run free”
