Troll Falls, All-Season Hike Loop
|Troll Falls all-season hike has endless waterfalls to explore. The hike to the first falls is an easy 3.4 km return hike which seems to be the most common one to hike for families. However, there are 5 more fair size falls to discover on this hike most of which are easier to explore in winter while everything is frozen.
Troll Falls Long Loop is approx 6.25 km return.
I recommend starting this hike through the trees left of washrooms. The trail meets up at a fork, there is a trail on the left for cross country skiers, a path to the falls as well as a trail that heads down the cutline which loops back to the parking lot.
Troll Falls Summer Hike
The first 2 waterfalls are an easy hike although the trail gets a bit trickier as you go. The hike to Upper Falls #3 is still quite doable for families in summer though caution is advised.
Troll Falls Winter Hike
Although the trail to the #3 falls in summer is quite safe in winter I highly recommend wearing Micro Spikes on your footwear. There were so many people young and old really having a hard time ascending back down the slippery trail, which for us was not a slipping hazard whatsoever for us. I can’t stress enough the importance of good footwear as well as all the proper gear to ensure a safe fun hike wherever you choose. You may never know when what’s in your backpack could be a lifesaver.
Explore Troll Falls
Besides all the falls that this hike features there are also a couple of tree Teepees found on the treed trail heading up to the falls that are fun to explore especially for the young kids as well as the beautiful grey Whiskey Jacks birds that will come eat your trail mix out of your hands.
At the highest point up the canyon, stunning views of the mountains appear through the trees.
Continuing up this trail leads to a path to the left which will take you up the cutline to one of the ski trails at Nakiska. The right trail carries on up the crevasse, where I am not sure.
