The Older I Get, the Less I Care About This…

The older I get, the more I realize that life isn’t about chasing perfection, it’s about appreciating what truly matters. In this personal reflection, I share how aging has changed my perspective, why I’ve stopped worrying about other people’s expectations, and the lessons I’ve learned through chronic pain, hiking, rebuilding my life, and embracing each new chapter with gratitude.

The older I get

Growing older has become something we’re taught to fear.

Wrinkles.

Gray hair.

A slower body.

Another birthday.

Social media tells us to hide it, fix it, or fight it.

But here’s what I’ve been thinking lately…

What if aging isn’t something to fear?

What if it’s something to earn?

Every line on my face tells a story.

Every scar reminds me I survived something.

Every gray hair is proof that I was lucky enough to keep living while someone else didn’t get the chance.

Do I wish my body hurt less?

Absolutely.

Do I wish I had the energy I had at 30?

Of course.

But I wouldn’t trade the wisdom, gratitude, or perspective I’ve gained over the years.

At 63, I’m not trying to look younger.

I’m trying to live better.

To hike another trail.

Watch my grandson grow up.

Laugh a little more.

Worry a little less.

Take care of the body that’s carried me this far.

Growing older isn’t the end of life.

It’s a reminder to make every day count.

And lived I have…

❤️ If you’re over 50… what’s one thing you appreciate more now than you did when you were younger?
