Ribbon Creek Hike Via Kovach and Terrace Loop

Getting there:

Ribbon Creek Hike is an easy 5.6 km wide trail that zig-zags up the creek through the forest crossing 8 bridges in total.

Turn onto Mt Allan Dr from HWY 40, then left at Centennial Dr heading up to Kananaskis Village, turning right on Ribbon Creek Rd to day use area.

The hike:

The Ribbon Creek hike is best to do counter-clockwise starting from the right of the bridge behind the old coal train pictured below. Starting left over the bridge is a steady ascend that could be a bit more daunting, however, both are doable.

Follow the trail to the right over the first wooden bridge and continue meandering through the trees over 6 more bridges. Seventh being the start of the loopback down.

This trail was highly affected by the 2013 flood so a lot of deadfall lye’s among the creek and along the trail.

Halfway Bridge Crossing

Just before the big wooden bridge, you are welcomed by a carved out tree stump in the shape of a head-on your right. A trail sign will guide you to the right onto Ribbon Falls which is another 6.7 km or cross the bridge continuing the loop back down to the trailhead.

The trail to the falls is in the avalanche zone so not advised to do in winter months however many will walk to the bike racks another 1km then turn back.

In the summer it is a popular bike trail to the racks, lock up your bikes and continue on to the falls.

Conclusion:

There really isn’t much to see back down however there are 4 trails that lead to Kananaskis Village where one can extend their hike.

All in all Ribbon Creek is a nice relaxing hike for any skill level. The creek definitely adds value to the hike as the only view is Mt Boggarts snowy peak in the distance that seems to look down over the creekbed.
