Snagmore Loop Hike, Bragg Creek
|Elbow Trail to Snagmore Loop is a really enjoyable 9.2 km hike that has numerous views of the surrounding valley. It’s a moderate hike however doing the trail counter-clockwise as shown in All Trails seems to be easier with the views oncoming making it less likely to miss a scenic view.
The trail goes from wide to narrow pathways through the forest although wide enough that horseback riders find it very doable. The trail crosses many bridges and creeks to numerous to mention which make this hike a really tranquil hike in the spring summer months with water flowing from many nooks and crannies.
The trail isn’t too exciting for the first 3 km, just a nice walk through the forest with trails crossing throughout until you hit the higher viewpoints.
Once hitting Iron Springs Trail continue to the right gradually ascending where more views open up around. The trail will come to another sign in which to continue the Snagmore pathway take the west route into the trees.
This trail is really pretty and winds through the forest up to a few lookout points. If you look close in the distance to the East the City of Calgary skyline is quite visible.
Another is a great place to stop for pics, lunch, and a beverage. This point looks out over an old movie set from North of 60 that sits within the horseshoe of the surrounding river.
Grab your binoculars to take a closer look at this recreated small mountain town. A beautiful setting that is still used for other movie projects as well.
Continue on along a ridge walk which has some valley and mountain views ending the loop.
