Discovering Rustic Old Buildings Across The Alberta Prairies.
Road trip Finds
I love discovering rustic old buildings across the Alberta prairies. driving along and in passing by an old building where I am like, STOP! Turn around, must go get a pic of that piece of history. Some are right off road and some are off in the distance. It is the right thing to do to ask permission where possible. No one likes trespassers. Please be respectful as well.
“If the walls could talk” What stories would they tell? I often wonder that when coming across these rustic old buildings on my travels around Alberta. Rich in history, it is sad that one day these buildings will vanish as well as the many memories that surrounded them.
Rustic Reclamation
Although these buildings will vanish from where they once stood, it gives me great comfort knowing that the wood is being reclaimed. Bringing the old in with the new is a way to remember the history that this wood holds. Many designers are using old barn /house wood for everything from tables, accent walls, headboards. shelving, picture frames, cabinets, and so much more.
Where to find reclaimed wood from rustic old buildings?
If you are lucky enough to come across a building and know or find the owner you may get permission to remove some wood for yourself. BONUS RIGHT?
There are a few companies in Alberta where you can purchase the reclaimed lumber if you like doing DIY projects.
Reclaimed Wood Décor
Reclaimed Barnwood Planks
Brown Reclaimed Wood, Accent Table
Hope you enjoyed some of the many photos I have taken throughout my travels. I wish to take many more road trips and discover some new places to come.
Always when traveling keeping a First Aid Kit in your car, better to be safe and prepared than sorry.
Need some unique road trip ideas so you may discover on your own?

This is so neat! I love seeing these kinds of buildings and thinking about what life must have been like at the time they were new.
